Orangutan Appeal UK has donated more vital equipment to the critically endangered orangutans.

At Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo, x-raying resident and wild orangutans is often essential. Injured orangutans rushed to the Centre’s veterinary clinic can be in a critical condition.

Until now, the Centre has had to outsource scans from the x ray to a developer machine in Sandakan 26km away, each time treatment was needed.

Every orangutan is precious and the need to be able to treat them effectively is crucial.

The new developer was presented to the vet care team in a special ceremony at the Centre.

Charity Founder, Susan Sheward explained: “This developer allows the veterinary staff to diagnose the problem in a much shorter space of time, meaning the welfare of the animals is improved. This is so important”

The Director of Sabah Wildlife Department Augustine Tuuga expressed his sincere thanks to Orangutan Appeal UK and said: “I am sure with the arrival of this modern and state of the art equipment in Sepilok, it would further enhance the diagnostic capability of our vets in Sepilok”

The developer will ensure Sepilok’s vets can continue to play their indispensable role in caring for Borneo’s wildlife, especially the orangutan. Orangutan Appeal UK is proud to work alongside Sabah Wildlife Department and has to date invested over £2 million, to care for and preserve this beautiful but vulnerable species.
